Keep Shopify’s convenience, but don’t compromise on membership and points integration. KAITECH delivered that “have both” through a custom app.

■ The Challenge

A health-equipment brand needed an e-commerce store with membership and a points program to sell its products. Shopify covered order management and the storefront well, but the moment they wanted to use membership and points data, Shopify’s standard features hit a wall. The central question was how to fold in their own membership and points scheme while keeping the platform’s convenience.

■ Our Approach

KAITECH used Shopify for storefront and order management, and designed a setup where an external server and a custom app — installed into Shopify — handled membership and points integration. Our scope ran from the app’s requirements and development through the points integration itself. By drawing a pragmatic line — let Shopify handle what its standard features cover, and add custom code only where they fall short — we met the brand’s unique requirements while keeping development cost and future maintenance in check.

■ Results & Highlights

  • Kept Shopify’s strengths while adding membership and points via a custom app.
  • Solved requirements beyond Shopify’s standard features through external integration.
  • Splitting “what Shopify covers” from “what needs custom code” optimized cost.
  • Delivered as a Shopify-installed app, preserving ease of operation.
  • Delivered in about two months.

■ Why KAITECH Was The Right Fit

Finding the sweet spot between “build it all from scratch” and “ride an existing platform” has an outsized effect on cost and outcome. KAITECH decides with the client — in light of their business and budget — how far Shopify should carry and where custom code is worth it, rather than starting from a technology. That discipline of avoiding unnecessary custom development is what makes the e-commerce build so cost-effective.
