Moving an unmanned vehicle carrying 50 tons of load, safely and precisely. KAITECH handled everything from friction-characteristic validation of mechanical parts to developing the PLC control software itself.

■ The Challenge

This customer manufactures heavy-industrial equipment and needed both control software for a 50-ton-capacity AGV (automated guided vehicle) and a testing tool to validate the friction characteristics of its mechanical parts. Safely controlling that much load across multiple drive wheels required verifying precision from both the mechanical-design side and the software-control side.

■ Our Approach

KAITECH built a friction testing and validation tool for the mechanical parts as a Windows Form application, including report integration back into the customer’s ERP system. In parallel, the team developed the PLC software that controls the AGV itself — supporting 6 movement modes across 4 sets of differential-drive wheel pairs, and integrating HMI and joystick operation, servo motor control, Lidar-based safety detection, and hall-sensor position sensing into one control system.

■ Results & Highlights

  • Safely controls a 50-ton-capacity AGV across 6 different movement modes
  • Captured friction-characteristic validation data through a Windows Form tool, feeding automatically into the ERP system
  • Integrated a safety system combining Lidar and hall sensors
  • Enabled the mechanical design and control software to be validated together as one connected process

■ Why KAITECH Was The Right Fit

For industrial machinery handling this much load, software validation alone isn’t enough — the physical characteristics of the mechanical parts themselves need to be verified too. KAITECH kept the testing-tool development and the PLC control software development within the same team, preserving consistency between the mechanics and the software throughout the build.
